Max RPM with current pitch
Once you have determined the maximum wide open throttle range of
your pleasure boat by consulting your owner documents, it is now
time to do the proper testing that is needed. This can be done by
driving your boat out to a place where there are no people present.
After your arrival at this secluded place, the boat should be accelerated
to the point of wide open throttle. Write down the exact point that
your boating vessel can be pushed to on a small notepad. The goal
is to increase the number of revolutions per minute without destroying
the motor of your boat.
Finding the Ideal RPM
Next you must subtract the highest RPM level that the engine was able to obtain from the recommended RPM that you found in your owner's manual. This figure is the precise number of revolutions per minute that you need to hit. The general rule of thumb that all boat lovers’ can follow is that for each 4 inches of prop pitch, revolutions per minute will increase about 800. In other words, if you were to substitute a boat prop of 22 inches with a boat prop of 20 inches this would increase the revolutions per minute by 400 and allow your boat to take off faster at the same time.
Existing Pitch
The last step in the boat prop pitch formula involves finding out the number of the prop pitch that is already on your boat. You can find this crucial information by looking at the blades of your boat prop, or on the boat hub. Once you have this priceless number, you can now determine the new prop pitch that you will need in order to enhance the speed and quality of your pleasure boat. Though it can take a long time to implement the steps contained in this article, you and your boat are truly worth the effort. If only your boat could speak, I am sure that it would thank you from the bottom of its heart or at least the depths of its boat propellers.
